STAY
Slow down in a hundred-year-old machiya.
The whole building, yours alone.
yoinn is a private townhouse in the old quarter of Gojo — a single-party rental in the truest sense.
We restored it carefully, taking out what wasn’t needed
and keeping what the building had already learned to do.
We wanted staying here to be a reason to travel, not just somewhere to sleep.
Garden
The Courtyard
A stone courtyard enclosed by the building on all sides.
Time moves differently here.
Light a fire in the wood-burning stove.
Sit with whoever you’ve come with.
Let the conversation run out naturally.
Morning
Morning by the River
Walk to the Yoshino River — five minutes from the inn.
Nothing there but the sound of water and early air.
An empty embankment, no one else around.
Some mornings, that’s enough.
Neighborhood
Walking the Old Quarter
Five minutes from the inn, Shinmachi-dori.
The row of Edo-period merchant houses
has barely changed in two hundred years.
Not sightseeing — just walking.
After a while, Gojo’s pace becomes your own.
Dinner
Cooking In
Ingredients from the Gojo area, cooked in the kitchen.
Nothing elaborate.
But evenings spent cooking at your own pace,
eating what the land here offers —
those tend to stay in memory longer than any restaurant meal.
