When you plan a trip to Japan, it's easy to give every day a long list of places to visit. There's always another temple, another train, another view you don't want to miss.
But I sometimes wonder what happens when we leave a little room in a journey.
Here in Gojo, the streets of Shinmachi have been here for generations. The Yoshino River flows nearby. And in an old house, an afternoon can pass with nothing more than changing light and a record playing.
These are not the moments that usually make it onto a travel itinerary. Maybe that's part of why they stay with us.
When I created yoinn, I wanted there to be a place for that kind of time. A place to slow down, be with the people you're travelling with, and enjoy the little things.
Whether or not you ever visit, I hope this little letter gives you a glimpse of another side of Japan.
Until the next letter,

From time to time, I'd love to share a little of life in southern Nara: quiet streets, changing seasons, and places you might want to visit someday.

A PLACE BEHIND THESE LETTERS
I write from yoinn, a private stay in a 100-year-old house in Gojo. If you ever plan a journey through this part of Japan, you're welcome to explore the house and a few ways to spend your days here.
